Proform 400 Treadmill – Right for You?
The Proform Performance 400 treadmill has been one of Proform’s top selling starter treadmills for around 4 years now.
This isn’t surprising since you can get a decent motor, iFit Coach and incline for under $600.
Plus, Proform has updated the 400 treadmill this year with a new, full-color, HD console display.
So you can watch iFit Coach workouts in full color from your console.

Proform Performance 400 Treadmill Review – Benefits:
New, Full-Color, HD Console
Proform has updated the Performance 400 treadmill this year from a standard, plain console last year (seen below):
to a new, full-color, HD, touch-screen console seen here:
As you can see that’s quite a difference! It can make your workouts a lot more enjoyable.
You can easily navigate around, see your workout stats or watch an iFit Coach workout with a swipe of your finger.
There’s also one-touch speed and incline buttons along the bottom for quick, on-the-fly changes and a handy EKG hand grip pulse sensor to track your heart rate as you walk.
Travel the World with iFit Coach
iFit Coach takes your treadmill online using the Wireless internet in your home. You connect to iFit Coach through the push of a button through your console display.
From there you can do all sorts of cool things.
You can take a high-energy treadmill fitness class right from your console. The instructor takes your incline up and down for you during the class.
You can also explore famous trails all over the world – from Paris to the shores of Hawaii – and watch the scenery pass you by in the console screen.
You can also use iFit Coach to track your workouts over time, see how far you’ve come and set new goals!
The best part about iFit?
While it’s usually a paid, yearly subscription service, if you get the new Proform Performance 400 treadmill through the Manufacturer, you can get a Free 1 year Membership to iFit Coach included!
So you have a full year to try it out and see if you like it!
This alone on a starter treadmill is practically unheard of – and gives you great value. With iFit Coach, you actually have over 12,000 different video workouts to choose from – so you’ll never get bored!
There’s a hand tablet holder bracket above the console that you can use to hold your tablet.
So you can go online and surf the web or watch your favorite shows or movies as you walk.
The only downside is that the tablet holder is not adjustable as the tablet holders on other treadmills like the Proform 600.
But it does sit around eye level – so it should be fine for most people.
iPod Dock With Speakers
You can also plug in and play your favorite tunes with the iPod dock. There are built-in speakers in the console so you can avoid using your earphones if you want.
Easily Folds To Save Space
The Proform 400 folds up to save space. There’s a shock assisted fold mechanism to save the strain on your back.
And there are also rollers on the bottom to make it easier to move out of the way.
50 Built-in Workouts
Not sure you want to use iFit? No problem.
The Proform Performance 400i treadmill also comes with a whopping 50 built-in workouts. The workouts are designed by a certified personal trainer and target different things like time, speed, calorie burn and incline settings.
Proform 400 Treadmill Review – What You Should Know:
Measuring around 18 x 50 inches, this is one of the shorter belts that Proform makes. While it should be fine for most people, if you’re over 6 feet and plan on running, you might find yourself bumping up against the edge of the belt.
If you want a similar treadmill with a slightly longer belt, you may want to check out the Proform 600 treadmill instead.
You get from 0 – 10% incline on the Proform Smart 400 treadmill. This is fairly standard for a starter treadmill. However if you want a bit more challenge you might want to look for a model with a higher 15% incline like the Proform 995i Power Treadmill.
If you’re looking for a super-affordable treadmill that gives you some of the best entertainment options on the market, you’ll love the Proform Performance 400 treadmill.
The new console this year really knocks it out of the park and gives you a lot of fun options during your workout.
You can choose from over 12,000 different iFit workout videos to watch, travel all over the world or take fitness classes from your home.
While it’s still a starter treadmill – and not necessarily the best for heavy running – walkers and occasional joggers should be fine with it.
