Proform 505 vs 995 Treadmill – Which is Best For You?
Trying to decide between the Proform 505 Treadmill

vs the Proform 995 treadmill?

These two treadmills are both incredibly popular. They’ve both been around for years – the 505 model tends to sell through a lot of discount outlets and Proform hasn’t really updated it in a few years now.
The Proform 995 treadmill is one of their top-sellers and Proform updates it basically every year.
So how are they different and which is best for you?
This post will show you some of the key differences between the Proform 505 vs 995 treadmills to help you decide.

Proform 505 vs 995 Treadmill – Price:
The Proform 505 treadmill is slightly more affordable coming in around $400 less than the Proform 995 treadmill – at least as of this writing. The price does bounce around a bit from $1000 and below. You can get it from the Manufacturer right now for about $599 with Free Shipping here.
The Proform 995 is a bit of a higher end model. You can get it currently direct from the Manufactrer for around$999 with Free Shipping here.
This leaves a lot of people wondering what you get on the Proform 995 that you don’t get on the 505 treadmill? Well, the answer is a lot. Let’s dig deeper.
Proform 505 vs 995 Treadmill – Consoles
You see a big difference between consoles on these machines. The Proform 505 treadmill – because it hasn’t been updated in a few years – has an old-school console with a very small console window and a simpler layout:

The Proform 995 console is on the simpler side as well. However the console readout area is much larger and will be easier to read than the Proform 505 model.

You’ll also notice that there’s a bracket to hold your tablet on the Proform 995 treadmill that you don’t find on the Proform 505 treadmill. A lot of people like to attach their tablets above the console and watch Netflix or YouTube videos on their tablets as they walk.
There’s also a built-in cooling fan on the Proform 995 console to keep you cool whereas the 505 treadmill console has no fan.
Proform 505 vs 995 Treadmill – Motor Power
The motor is the heart of your treadmill. A weaker motor power will not last as long under intense or heavy use of the treadmill. The Proform 505 treadmill has a 2.5 HP motor – which is average.
But the Proform 995 treadmill comes with a much stronger 3.0 HP motor – so it can hold up better under longer or more frequent workouts than the 505 model.

Proform 505 vs 995 Treadmill – Incline
Incline changes the slope of your walking path and can be a great way to add some high-calorie-burning intervals to your training routine. The Proform 505 treadmill comes with the standard 0 – 10% incline.
But the Proform 995 gives you from 0 – 15% incline. According to the manufacturer, you can burn up to 2 times the calories on a 15% incline vs no-incline walking.
So you have a lot more room to grow with the Proform 995 treadmill.

Proform 505 vs 995 Treadmill – Belt Size
The Proform 505 comes with a belt that’s a bit on the shorter end – only 55 inches long. A few years ago, this was the standard.
However, nowadays, treadmill manufacturers like Proform are starting to give people longer belts so they can stretch out and run a bit more.
The Proform 995 has a 60 inch belt which gives you more room to run

Proform 505 vs 995 Treadmill – iFit Coach
iFit Coach is a very cool new technology. With the craze now for things like fitbit or calorie counters etc, many treadmill manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon and added online tracking options to their treadmills as well.
For Proform that comes in the form of iFit Coach. This is a yearly online subscription based service (optional) that will automatically record your workouts and graph your progress over time etc. It’s a great way to track your progress and set new goals.
iFit Coach also lets you run famous trails all over the world – from Paris to Australia and watch real landmarks pass you by in your tablet window for some virtual reality fun (see the pic above).
The Proform 995 treadmill does come with the iFit Coach option whereas the Proform 505 treadmill does not. So again, you have more room to expand and grow with the Proform 995 model.

So those are the main differences between the Proform 505 vs 995 treadmills.
Bottom Line?
While the Proform 505 comes in at a great price, to be frank – there are better options out there (like the similarly priced Proform Performance 400 which does have iFit and a much better console). It just doesn’t give you high value for the money.
The Proform 995 treadmill on the other hand, is a beast of a treadmill – strong motor, larger rollers (which help protect your motor and belt), long belt and a very stable feel.
There really isn’t a comparison between them – the 995 is just a much stronger treadmill that will hold up better under continual or frequent use.
